(S)weeping Away

I’ve been following the news on how bad the flood is in Jakarta and have texted a few of my good friends to see how they’re doing. Some are fine but some also have lost valuable belongings like cars, motorbikes as well as essential househould appliances like washing machines, fridges and god knows what else. It saddens me to think about them right now.

My parents and my sister are okay but one of my aunt’s house is slowly drowning and the last I heard was that the water had reached waist level. The sky’s already dark and I’m hoping things are beginning to get better. The image of people huddling on their rooftops is unpleasant, if not sad. But what makes me really down is that a good friend of mine emailed me yesterday and said he couldn't be here as planned in view of the flood and Chinese New Year...Sigh...

Anyway, I hope you’re all hanging in there. Of course my prayers are with you.

I wanna meet people who inspire those around them with their posture alone but break hearts when they dance, people who are brave and sincere, people who know of other languages and cultures and are willing to share their knowledge with me, old books and photographs, music that I have to fall into....
